The Transition Austin Hub is the main organizing body for Transition Austin. It has a business meeting every month, on the second Thursday of the month, in the studios of Austin Architect Lars Stanley at 1901 E. M. Franklin Avenue. At the meetings, we discuss the everyday business that any organization deals with; we also have guest speakers occasionally, such as the proprietor of a local organic farm.
Everyone is welcome to attend the Hub business meetings, and to participate in our discussions and decisions. Our meetings are run using the consensus process, an alternative to Robert's Rules of Order that empowers everyone at the meeting, not just the majority.
The nature of the regular meetings of the Hub is changing:
At the December 2011 meeting, the members of the Transition Austin
Hub decided that the monthly Hub meetings should be more than just
business meetings.
Business still needs to be taken care of, but that will happen
between 7:00 and 7:30.
Starting at 7:30, we are having a Community Roundtable
discussion.
We intend for a wide variety of people from Transition Austin,
not just those interested in managing its operation, to begin
attending, contributing to, and learning from the Roundable.
A complete record of the agendas and minutes for all Transition Austin Hub meetings, from May 2009 to the present, can be found on the Meetings page.
2012 will be a very significant year of opportunity for us to assist those who need to learn how to adjust to the coming transition. The discussions at the Roundtable will cover a wide variety of topics - for example: what we have tried that works for us and our families; what resources we are aware of in the community, to send people to, to volunteer for, or to donate to; and the ways Transition Austin can reach out to our members and their friends and families.
Education is an important part of our mission. Becase of this, we have tentatively scheduled the May Roundtable to be a tour of the Permaculture installation that the Hub meeting host, Lars Stanley, has made of his land in east Austin. We encourage anyone who has suggestions or requests for the Roundtable to come and join us in making it be what we need in this critical year!
