Books about Food

The American way of eating will be affected by the coming crises; but just as importantly, our way of eating affects what's happening on our world, too.

Diet for a Hot Planet by Anna Lappé
Written by the daughter of Jean Lappé, author of Diet for a Small Planet, this book details changes that have to be made, on the personal and the global levels, to reduce the toll our food system takes on the world's climate. Here's an excerpt from the author's introduction:

"Challenged to name the human factors that promote climate change, we typically picture industrial smokestaks of oil-thirsty planes and automobiles, not Pop-Tarts or pork chops. Yet the global system producing and distributing food - from seed to plate to landfill - likely accounts for 31 percent or more of the human-caused global warming effect."
