The world is changing:
the age of oil is ending,
the climate is changing (warming, here in Texas),
and the economic system is teetering.

Will we live that change as a planned, even joyous transition,
or will we stand here and let it hit us like an oncoming train?

We of Transition Austin choose to get ready, and to
thrive in the new world that's coming.

Our Mission:
Sparking Austin's Transition to ecological and social resilience
amid global economic and environmental crises
through education, organizing, and community building.

Our Task:
To raise awareness among Austin's people about
the reality of peak oil and global climate change,
and to teach & model effective ways for all of us to get through those crises
in ways that enhance the quality of life of the people of Austin.

We invite you

It's not the fact that we're running out of resources that's going to do us in - it's the economic collapse that'll happen on the way to that point. How Resource Limits Lead to Financial Collapse argues that it's the cost of resources as their availability wanes, rather than the waning itself, that's going to end our current way of life.

"The world is in transition from an era of food abundance to one of scarcity." The article New era of food scarcity echoes collapsed civilizations compares the situation before the collapse of earlier civilizations with the current situation, and finds a lot of similarities. Can our collapse be far behind?

And another country shows the benefits of local food production. The title says it all: In 1999, 35 million small family plots produced 90% of Russia's potatoes, 77% of vegetables, 87% of fruits, 59% of meat, 49% of milk — way to go, people!
